Burlington wildlife control tip of the month:

What kind of damage do raccoons cause in an attic?

So you found out there was a raccoon in your attic. You tried a few things and Burlington animal control was finally able to get it out, and now the real work begins. You have to clean up after this terrible animal. The chore has just begun. Raccoons are very disgusting and messy animals who make more chaos than you can possibly imagine. Prepare to be busy.

Raccoons are scavengers, so they will get into and use anything they can to build themselves a home and a place to sleep. This can mean that your insulation will be destroyed, torn up, and moved around to accommodate a nice bed. Burlington pest control understands that insulation can be dangerous to breathe in, but a raccoon does not care about fiberglass. They just see this is a piece of warm fuzzy stuff that they can lay on and stay warm. It is ideal.

If you have stuff stored in your attic, like clothes and papers, it is also likely that these items will be torn up as well. These are opportunistic animals that will use whatever they find for their purposes and your clothes and mementos make the perfect items to use.

If that wasn’t bad enough in and of itself, you then have the issue of the waste they leave behind. Raccoons do their business wherever they are not going to sleep, so pretty much any other place within your attic is fair game. That can leave you with a mess that you will find quite unpalatable to clean up.

While cleaning up any animal’s feces and urine can be a disgusting chore for Burlington animal trapping, the fact that raccoon ringworm can get airborne and enter your body through your nasal passages while you clean up the feces can be very dangerous to you. You have to wear gloves, long sleeves, pants and a mask while you clean up. These organisms can enter through nasal passages and by burrowing into the skin, which can lead to some very serious illnesses. You can easily find yourself sick and there is no real known cure for this parasite.

Cleaning up after a raccoon has been in your attic is simply not an easy chore. This can be a lot of work for Burlington wildlife removal, and can be quite dangerous. You need to make sure that you protect yourself and use the right kind of cleaners to do the job. If you can afford it you should consider hiring a professional service.
